The actor, who plays Stefan Salvatore in the hit ITV2 show, added: “I’m definitely not interested in Rob Pattinson’s crown.
“I want to be associated with doing a variety of different roles.”
And of the huge popularity of sexy bloodsuckers, he said: “It’s been around since the beginning of storytelling – a really long time. I just think it’s been reinvigorated through pop culture making vampires sex symbols.
“Once Vampire Diaries comes to an end, and Twilight stops making movies, I think it’s going to take a bit of a back seat, but I don’t think it’s going to go away for ever.”
He added the show has landed him with a lot of obsessive fans.
He said: “I get a lot of biting requests for some reason. They think it’s a lot sexier than it turns out. I tried to bite a girl on the arm once but just drooled all over her.”
